On this International Women’s Day, we proudly reflect on the talented women who make Keystone a positive and vibrant place to work. As we continue our journey towards inclusivity, we celebrate not only our individual contributions, but the values and support that drive us as a team every day.

It goes without saying that all employees are encouraged to achieve their full potential, regardless of background, age, race or gender. As you would expect from a company of our size, there are personal development reviews, one-to-ones, open doors and more training than you can shake a stick at! But how does it translate in reality and what do female team members actually say about their own experience of working here?

The hourly ‘squat-o’clock’ might sound gimmicky, but its benefits are undeniable.

“Keystone fully promotes work-life balance by allowing an individual to be flexible with their working environment. As part of the admin team, we take regular breaks to engage in physical activity, helping to reduce stress and boost productivity. It’s an environment that encourages well-being, and we’re all more focused and re-energised as a result.”

Fostering talent and driving growth isn’t solely the Line Manager’s responsibility.

As a long-term member of staff at Keystone, I’ve had the privilege of watching graduates develop their skills, grow professionally, and progress through the company. I’m proud to have played a part in supporting them in my role as an ecology administrator.”

We empower women to pursue their passions within their careers.

“I’ve had a strong interest in the environment and ecology from a young age, inspired by my parents and teachers. What drew me to Keystone was the chance to combine my interests in GIS and ecology, gaining experience in both fields simultaneously. Unlike other companies where I’d have to choose, Keystone allowed me to pursue both passions in an integrated way.”

Growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones.

“When we won our first work on HS2, I took responsibility for the submission of the application for payment on our largest ever (multi-million pound) project. I felt very much outside of my comfort zone, representing Keystone at client meetings with our then MD and Head of Habitats. I contributed significantly to those meetings and played a part in the successful negotiation of our fees. It was an intimidating environment, dominated by men, and highly qualified individuals. As a member of an SME, it was an unfamiliar environment, and the learning curve was steep. Ultimately, it strengthened both our team and my confidence, laying a solid foundation for future success in large-scale projects.”

Playing to our strengths makes for a winning team.

“Here we recognise individuality and that we each have unique talents. This strengths-based philosophy fosters a culture of appreciation and connection, where individuals can leverage their unique talents to contribute more effectively, enhance collaboration, and drive overall success for the business.”

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we acknowledge the contributions of all of the women at Keystone and look forward to continuing to create an environment where everyone can reach their full potential.
